Mahale Mountains National Park, with its rainforest-covered mountains, is a protected area, there are no roads for chimpanzees. The only way to get in and out of the park is by boat across the lake.

Mahale National Park is located in the western part of Tanzania, bordering Lake Tanganyika. The forested slopes of the Mahale Mountains rise behind the park, home to the world’s largest known population of chimpanzees, with approximately 800 individuals inhabiting the area. Tracking the chimps of Mahale is a magical experience. The forest also boasts amazing troops of red colobus, red-tailed, and blue monkeys and is home to an endemic race of Angola colobus monkey. For ornithologist, this is the perfect place to see a kaleidoscopic array of colorful forest birds.

Activities in Mahale Mountains National Park

Chimpanzee Trekking – This is the most popular activity carried out in the park where visitors move deep into the�forest in search habituated chimpanzee families
Guided Nature Walks – This gives you�a chance to explore the park on foot.
Bird Watching – Has move that 350 Birds species which makes it one of the best birding destinations in Tanzania.
Snorkeling – You will swim in the lake with a diving mask, wetsuit and fins, This normally take up to about 3 hours.
Boat Cruise – You will ride along the lake where you will have great views of hippos and crocodiles, water birds, beautiful scenery and sunset.
Sport Fishing – This is done when the weather is calm, during the activity fish anglers will use a catch and release method to catch different types of fish.
Cultural Tours – You will have a change of visit the Batongwe people, where you will learn their culture, taste their food any many more
